Coaching

An individualized one-on-one process that builds a person’s capacity to elicit change and transform learning into results.

"The more the world around us in flux, the more we as individuals must be certain what matters most in our lives: how we spend time, who we are connected to, and where we are going. A coach is someone who can evoke passion and purpose in others, within dissolving and reconstituting environments of our time."

Coaching

Jenny Rogers, a published author and executive coach, defines coaching as:

"the art of facilitating another’s person’s learning, development, well-being and performance. Coaching raises self-awareness and identifies choices. Through coaching, people are able to find their own solutions, develop their own skills, and change their own attitudes and behaviors. The whole aim of coaching is to close the gap between people’s potential and their current state."

Principles and Beliefs

Coaching includes six foundation principles and beliefs:

The client is resourceful

Only the client can really know what to do because he/she/they know the full story, can implement the action, and live with the results

The coach’s role

The coach’s role is to develop the client’s resourcefulness through skillful questioning, challenge and support – it is not about giving advice

Coaching

Coaching addresses the whole person –
past, present, and future

Agenda

The client sets the agenda

The meeting

The coach and client are equals

Change and action

Coaching is about change and action – it is not about solving problems

"My role is to “lead from behind” and develop the client’s resourcefulness in support of his/her aspirations and growth by applying keen listening, asking pertinent questions, making useful observations, challenging assumptions, introducing frameworks and providing a safe, supportive, confidential space in which topics can be explored."
